The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz returns to Windsor on June 1st

June 1st, as part of the Geek Zone at the North American Sport & Hobby Expo, the Windsor Gaming Resource will be hosting the fifth annual Windsor Great Canadian Board Game Blitz. The Expo is being held at the WFCU center and runs all weekend. The Blitz will take place on Sunday.

This all day, no elimination, four round board game tournament will run from 10am until the Expo closes at 6pm. Sign in and registration will be from 10am until 10:30am and game play will begin at 10:30am sharp. Participants are asked to gather as soon as possible in the gaming area in the Geek Zone so we can get going right away.

There will be over $500 in gaming prizes to be won. Including a pass to Fan eXpo Canada in Toronto to participate in the Great Canadian Board Game Blitz finals on Sunday August the 31st.

This years tournament will be four rounds long. This may be subject to change due to participation and how quickly/slowly things are running the day of the event.

Round 1 - 1 hour
Round 2 - 1.5 hour
Hour Lunch Break
Round 3 - 1 hour
Final Round - 2 hours

Each round players will score points based on their final ranking in the game they play. These points are weighted by the game length (so you get more points for winning a 2 hour game than a 1 hour game). At the end of the event prizes will be awarded based on total points earned.

Here is the list of games that will be played each round. This is also subject to change depending on the number of participants and how we are doing on time the day of the event: 2014 Windsor Blitz Game List

Tickets to the event are $15 in advance and this includes; not only your entry into the tournament, but also a full all access pass that is good for the entire weekend for the North American Sport & Hobby Expo. Buying a ticket in advance guarantees you a spot and we only have room for 56 players.

Tickets can be purchased at Rogues Gallery Comics, Brimstone Games and Hugin & Munin. Tickets will also be for sale at the door but will cost $20 and won't reserve you a spot in the tournament. If we have room we will fit you in but we strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance.

Note: there are two tournaments going on at the Sport & Hobby Expo. This one and the Friday night Settlers of Catan Tournament. Access to one can get you free access to the other. You only have to pay the $15 once. Just be sure that when you buy your advance tickets you let us know you want in on both events.
